Nürnberg Christkindlmarkt

Advent is off with a bang for us Harolds.  With the Gaming Adventmarkt last weekend (was that JUST a week ago?) and Eichstätt getting slammed with 6-8 inches of snow (very uncharacteristic).  Rachel, Edy and Libby learned German Christmas cookie recipes with Mariele and her two daughters on Saturday.  Lebkuchen was fun and delicious, and Edy enjoyed cutting cookie shapes and icing them with little Anni.

Today we all made a day trip to Nürmberg for the grand Christkindlmarkt.  There was a special children's area with rides and moving figurines of Christmas characters.  The kids rode on a two-level carousel, mini ferris wheel, and a little train.  We paused to thaw out our fingers and toes in the Playmobil spielhaus after drinking hot gluhwein.  The main section of the Weinachtsmarkt was very large and very packed full of beautifully decorated merchants' stalls and shoppers buying Christmas ornaments, baked goods and many other delicate handiwork.

As we were leaving at 3 in the afternoon there were hoards of soccer fans coming off the train to have their share of gluhwein.  They were singing their victory songs coming straight from beating Nürmberg.  We had pleasant feelings of relief as we cleared out dozens of empty beer bottles from the train car they just vacated, because we missed their "spirited" company at the markt.

We found St. Klare Kirche

This is the wreath that Mariele made for us.

Edy arranged our treasures from our nature park walk around our Advent candles.
