Allerseelen Tag

Last week was All Soul's Day. Traditionally it is a day to visit a cemetery and pray for the dead. We actually have a huge cemetery in view from our balcony. This may be a morbid thought to Amercians, but that is because our cemeteries don't look like German cemeteries. The graves have a raised garden bed on top and each has a red candle. These gardens are well tended and planted with fall flowers and freshly cut floral arrangements. The candles have been lit lately so that at night our view is hundreds of flickering red lights. The kids have taken to walking through on the way home after picking Lucy up from school in order to admire all the gardens.
