Lanternenlauf

Today is St. Martin's feast day.  In Germany it is a day to process with lanterns at night and sing songs.  Both Lucy's and Max's schools had the children make lanterns and had processions.  We decided to attend Lucy's Kinderhaus celebration.  It was quite touching to see all the 2 and 3 year olds walking around with glowing handmade lanterns.  The feeling of community was strong amongst all the families and teachers as we sang together.  After the procession the children floated walnut shell candles in a kiddie pool.  By then it was quite dark and our American stomachs were quite hungry.  We think the celebration lasted for another hour after we left.

  1. It looks like winter has arrived in Eichstatt, Rachel. As usual great pix; that first one is classic Lucy. Tell Max and Edy there are big piles of dead leaves here with no one to jump into them.
Your blog is making me think differently about Germany. I'm becoming open-minded.
    Love.
